99 - Solitude

Lee sighed, trudging after Grant unwillingly. “Is there a reason why you dragged me out of bed, in the middle of the night, right after a snowstorm?” He demanded, stepping forward to glare at Grant for a minute.

“Sh.” Grant held a single finger to his lips and smiled. “Where do you keep your winter wear?”

Lee grumbled a bit as he led Grant over to a closet, pulling it open. “Why did Mother invite you for Christmas again?”

“She knew you needed companionship.” Grant’s smile grew and he came up behind Lee, wrapping his arms around the smaller teen’s waist. He leaned his chin on the shoulder in front of him, watching the other grab coats and gloves. “Hat.”

Lee frowned, turning his head to look at Grant. “You never wear a hat.” He pointed out, even as his hand reached up to grab one.

“Not for me. I’m used to the cold. It’s for you.”

Lee rolled his eyes and instead grabbed two scarves. “I don’t wear hats either. I wore a hat once, and that was because Mother made me wear it to go to church.”

“Ah yes. The Episcopalian Hat-Wearers.” Grant laughed softly, pulling away from Lee to take the offered coat.

“Better than the Tone-Deaf Methodists.” Lee grumped, pulling on his own coat and gloves. “Now.” He placed his hands on his hips after pulling on his scarf. “What did you want to show me?”

Grant sighed and rolled his eyes. “You have to go outside. Can you handle that?” He grinned and leaned forward slightly. “Well?”

Lee shoved Grant’s chest a bit, before turning and undoing the locks on the front door. They stepped out and Lee immediately shivered and drew in a sharp breath at the cold. “Damn, it’s cold.”

“Mm-hm.” Grant looked up. “That’s what I wanted to show you. So stop being a pansy and open your eyes.”

Lee frowned and looked up also, noting the falling snow. “So you do this every Christmas Eve? You go outside and watch snow fall?”

Grant frowned and looked down at Lee. “You’re not looking at it right. Here.” He grabbed Lee’s hand and dragged him further outside, so that they weren’t standing on the doorstep anymore. “Now look.”

Lee rolled his eyes and looked up, and this time his breath caught in his throat. Okay, he could now officially understand why Grant apparently did this every year. “It looks like stars are falling.”

“Yep.” Grant watched Lee out of the corner of his eye and then wrapped an arm around his waist, dragging him over. “Girl.” He whispered, just to bug Lee.

“Shut up.” Lee muttered, but the venom was lost because of the awe still in his voice. “It’s like no one else even exists right now.”

“That would be why I like it.” Grant muttered quietly, turning and pressing a quick kiss to Lee’s temple. “Now you’re not freaking out about your family catching us.”

Lee opened his mouth to say something but was cut off by Grant kissing him. “Mm, stop distracting me. It’s annoying.”
